Romanticism in industry

Romanticism in industry

Culture as solution

Dignity in what we do than how we look

Goal

Goal is a vision to keep me moving, and make my existence evident. Without any goal, I would drift into many obsessions, eventually a life without myself.

Goal
So....
What is my goal?

Peace:A quote from the movie, "Rent"," the opposite of the war is not peace, is Creation". I find it quite agreeable. People who enjoy the constructive life would not enjoy destruction. After all, we are not born to give up our passion. Peace is just a state of mind. Peace can't be defined by material mean.

Paradox

harmony of freedom and security, dual existence, paradox
A symbol to stimulate its landscape

a life of creation, an environment for the creative
a vibrant life, a place to celebrate life
a place to transform the greed from materialistic into spiritual
a place to transform the environmental burden into the solution of tomorrow
a place people can find themselves.
a place free for thought

a place to appreciate life

State of Mind in New Dimension

The curiosity to keep me fresh
The challenge to keep me evolving
The spirit to keep me dreaming

Time and Space for imagination and solution

Sustainability

Push yourself beyond the five senses, the sixth will come.
Spirituality through Physical Challenge

Magic resides in observation and imagination.
Magical effect

Reflection

Music as Space

Music: Although not the most important thing in my life, it has been always an accessible experience nearly everywhere, a psychological tool to deliver myself to different moods through melodious journey. Music is like architectures and places for different sensitivity. Every sensitivity leads to brain.

Thesis so far

Architecture is the trace of the society, but the hand behind the pen is what decides the next step of society. It is the architect who constructs the sentence that carries the audiences to his message. Ultimately through the message written in architecture, architects can influence the society and the environment according to their visions.

Today our environment has been built on the interest of the capitalism. As the result, architecture becomes the media to lead the mass society into consumptive mechanism. People know the world’s resources will be exhausted by their lifestyle. Still many of them find reasons to walk away from the issue. Why?

Because the mass media tell the society that the happiness resides in the materialistic means. Therefore architects are hired to build better and bigger shopping malls to manifest the consumer’s society.

Because the society is programmed to believe that more money can make a better life. Therefore people become the believers in the majestic presence of the financial buildings, the temple of the capitalists.

Architects have become the church builders of consumerism and capitalism.

I want to change the perception of society toward the labor workers, by remaking a factory into a dignified environment. People will shift their respect to the people who really produce the necessary goods instead of people who base their individual gains on others’ losses or ones who spend lots of money on the fashion that doesn’t last. Through an iconic and monumental presence, the factory of my proposal will stimulate thoughts of people in both positive way and negative way. People will be very aware of what the factory is producing as well as any pollution concerns. Either industry will have to create a solution to treat the pollution or create new methods of production. As a speculation of my proposal, such manufacturers will be monitored, stimulated, and forced to evolve as its transformation from the negative perception to the positive inspiration. The society will gain the awareness of its issue and the hope in its solution.

Therefore, I want to use architecture as the threshold to the future by reinventing the labor environment and redefining the roles of the industry and agriculture of the present.

Passage of Time

Passage of Time

Section Collage(Pyramid of Consumer's Civilization)
Hand drawn section of collage (Pyramid of 21st Century)
The idea in this set of collages is to be found the parallel of the reality and the visual implication in the top collage. The first collage eventually evolves into the form of pyramid. Then I found the irony in the idea of pyramid that it means social class or nutrition systems. As my intended subject to explore the possibility to fix the consumer society, I decide to interoperate this as the pyramid of the consumer's civilization in contrast the initial idea of Egyptian pyramid. The Egyptian pyramid was meant for the stair to the heaven. Escalator is the modern version of the stair, a stair of convenience. The consumer's pyramid is consume the world until the end where there is nothing as on the top of its pyramid. On the bottom image, it is a pyramid with a well of trash or sense of irony.

Boundary

Boundary
Section of Boundry

 Section in hand drawing
This set of collages is to explore the meaning of boundary. As my analysis of architecture by Morphosis, the secondary skin can be used for more linguistic mean. There is dynamic relationship between exposed glass and the secondary skin. Therefore, architecture by Morphosis can be seen as a concrete body, glass skin, and metallic dress.
